One of the most talented and imaginative
artists in the Discover Graphics Atelier, is
Mary Morrison. A critically acclaimed and nationally recognized artist, she has just completed an exhibit of her monprints (shown here to the left) along with the ceramaics of Andrea Gettings in the Alexandria Art League Gallery in the spring of 2007. Like many other printmakers Mary is a former graphic artist, unlike so many other printmakers however, Mary is a master of both the monoprint as well as the etching. A member of this studio since it's begining, her expressive style has more to do with her study of nature rather than merely a depiction of it.
Monoprints and monotypes are two terms that are often used interchangebly, because both terms refer to a spontaneous printmaking process, where you work paint and draw directly on to the plate. Using either medium is an excellent way for painters or printmakers to explore imagery or a series of ideas.
