Mokuhanga is the art of Japanese woodblock printing using water-based inks. Of all the traditional arts and techniques of Asia, these vibrant prints are probably the most widely known to the Western eye through their profound influence on the 19th Impressionist painters. This two-day intensive workshop is designed for beginner/intermediate students to dive in and learn the basics, as well as pro tips so when you leave you are ready to try it at home solo! Through the use of simple, natural, non-toxic materials, students will learn in-depth about the media and techniques through guided lessons on carving woodblocks and creating single and multi-color prints as well as how to print small editions.
